AFRICA WOMEN EXPERTS AMBASSADORS 2026

Africa Women Experts (AWE) is looking for Ambassadors for the following regions: Central Africa, West Africa, South Africa, and East Africa. Ideal candidates are journalists committed to promoting gender equality and the visibility of women’s expertise in the media.

BACKGROUND

Africa Women Experts (AWE) is a platform created by the Moroccan channel SOREAD 2M. Launched in 2018, it was created due to the underrepresentation of women experts in the media, who are often confined to a limited number of fields. According to the Global Media Monitoring Report (2015), only 20% of women experts were speaking out in the media worldwide. In 2025, this proportion reached only 25%, revealing that progress is still insufficient.

Africawomenexperts.com is a platform dedicated to women experts in Africa. Its objective is to promote equal representation of women and men and to improve the presence of women in the media in Africa.

It is based on four pillars: highlighting African women’s skills, connecting experts and journalists in Africa, building the capacity of experts to express themselves in the media, and networking among African women experts.

It is a digital directory that lists African women experts in more than 200 fields. It is made available free of charge to journalists, media professionals, content creators, institutions, and researchers who wish to identify and connect with women experts on the continent.

AWE ambassadors are the national and regional representatives of the AWE platform. Their mandate is for one year, renewable depending on their commitment, results, and availability.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

They must meet the following requirements:

• Be a journalist in Central Africa, West Africa, East Africa, or South Africa regions
• Be part of the network of African women journalists Les Panafricaines
• Be sensitive to issues of promoting gender parity and equality in the media
• Have a good knowledge of the local/regional media landscape
• Strong communication and mobilization skills.
• Ability to express themselves fluently in French or English.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The mission of AWE ambassadors is based on three pillars.

1. Recruit experts (major role)

• Identify experts (networks, events, media) in their respective regions.
• Introduce them to AWE.
• Assist them in registering on the platform.
• Verify the quality of the profiles submitted.

2. Promote experts in the media

• Propose local experts registered on the platform to the national/regional press.
• Present the AWE platform to editorial offices (email/message/meeting).
• Relay AWE’s actions and publications.

3. Organize local actions

• Networking webinars with experts from the region/between regions
• Organize/or relay capacity-building training for experts organized by AWE
• Relay AWE campaigns

• Visibility and recognition on AWE channels (newsletter, social media, etc.)
• International visibility thanks to the platform
• A digital AWE ambassador certificate (recognizing her commitment to promoting female expertise in the media)

SELECTION PROCESS

1. Application procedure

Candidates are invited to:

• Complete an online application form
• Submit their CV

2. Selection process

The selection process will consist of several stages:

• Review of applications received
• Pre-selection: 8 candidates will be shortlisted
• Online interviews with shortlisted candidates
• Final decision by a selection committee

3. Final selection

The four Ambassadors selected will be officially notified by email and announced via AWE’s communication channels.
