14th edition of the International Fashion Festival in Africa

Place: Rabat

Date: From 7 to 10 December 2022

After hosting the International Festival of Fashion in Africa (FIMA) in 2018 in the city of Dakhla, Morocco will host for the second time this continental fashion event, from 7 to 10 December 2022, but this time in Chellah Rabat. The event organized in the Moroccan capital, as part of the celebration “Rabat, African capital of culture”, is placed this year under the theme “Synergy of cultures for the development of Africa”.

“This edition aims to magnify and celebrate the best that Africa has to offer in the field of fashion and design in order to include it in the global ecosystem of fashion and design,” says a press release from the organizers.

The FIMA program will include four competitions aimed at promoting the best designers from Africa and its Diaspora, the best designers in the field of leather goods, the best designers of jewellery and fashion accessories, and the best top models. These competitions are launched in different African countries and in the African diaspora three months before FIMA. The event will also welcome conferences and workshops on the role of the fashion sector in wealth and job creation, the financing of fashion and design, the use of new technologies to transform production and marketing in the field of fashion and design in Africa etc…

FIMA is an event born in 1998 under the impulse of the designer Alphadi, named in 2015 “Artist for Peace by Unesco”, Unesco Goodwill Ambassador for innovation and African creation, and Honorary Member of United Cities and Local Governments of Africa (UCLG Africa).

FIMA is the first of several events planned as part of the pan-African program of  “Rabat, African Capital of Culture” which is supported by UCLG Africa aiming at making culture the fourth pillar of sustainable development of local authorities.
