UN Women: a 16-day campaign to end violence against women

This Wednesday, November 25, UN Women is launching a campaign to denounce violence against women around the world. Called “16 days of activism against gender-based violence”, this campaign which began this Wednesday, the international day for the elimination of violence against women, will end on December 10, the international day of humans rights.

On the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, UN Women calls for global mobilization against this phenomenon through a campaign under the theme: “Orange the World: Fund, respond, prevent, collect! ».

In several countries, this theme has been adapted to the context of the health crisis. In Morocco, for example, the campaign was launched under the theme: “Aggravated and accentuated vulnerability of women in times of crisis”. The objective is to reveal and question the impact of Covid-19 on different groups of women who are particularly vulnerable to inequalities and discrimination (rural women, migrants, refugees, People with disabilities, elderly, mothers, single people, women living with HIV etc …)

Conducted in Morocco under the official hashtag #Démasquons_la_violence in Morocco, this campaign is essentially digital and media-based due to the health crisis. Several informative and entertaining tools will be shared on social networks, the websites of United Nations agencies, civil society, in the media … to raise public awareness. Similarly, webinars are scheduled to engage public opinion on this issue.

This year again, the operation “Orange the World” will take place under the hashtag “OrangetheWorld”.It will involve orangeing public buildings in several countries to mark the commitment of these institutions to the urgent elimination of violence against women.

Since 2008, UN Women has dedicated 16 days of activism each year to denounce violence against women, at the call of the UN Secretary-General.
