Sara de Jesus Santos Baptista graduated in nursing and worked as a nurse for 14 years. She holds a master’s degree in Public Health- speciality in health politics and administration from the Escola nacional de Saúde in Portugal in 2008. She also has a Master's degree in HIV/AIDS infection from the Instituto Ciências de Saúde in 2011. She is taking a PhD in Life Sciences, in particular in Parasitology field, in the Graduate Program Science for Development (PGCD). She currently works with Instituto de Medicina Molecular - João Lobo Antunes, in Portugal at Dr Maria Mota Lab, which studies the biology and physiology of malaria. She works in understanding how the main liver stage protein of the plasmodium parasite is processed by the host hepatocyte. She has also developed campaigns for bone marrows donations among native and immigrant african community in Portugal and worldwide. She was Next Einstein Forum ambassador for Cape Verde from 2017 to 2019.
